How to succeed as an Introvert Entrepreneur

How to succeed as an introvert entrepreneur

When I first started my entrepreneurial journey (back in 2010), I believed I had to fit the mold of a classic, confident, extroverted leader.

I thought being bold, outspoken, and ever-present online was the only way to build a successful business. Turns out, I was wrong.

It took me a while to unlearn those beliefs and embrace something that’s truer to me: I am an introverted entrepreneur and I STILL made multiple 7 figures!

If you’ve ever felt out of place in the business world because you’re not drawn to flashy networking events, constant video calls, or relentless social media posting, this post is for you. I’m here to tell you that being an introverted entrepreneur is not a disadvantage - it’s your superpower because it is WHO you are. Learning to understand and embrace all aspects of WHO you are is what drives your success (and, as a clue, that is way more than just one single label like 'introvert').

This blog is linked to Episode 11 of the Inside Out Entrepreneur® Podcast, where I explore how being an introvert shapes the way I have run my businesses. I’ll share a few of the reflections and ideas I covered, but not everything - because you’ll want to listen to the episode for the full story and deeper insights.

Are you an introverted entrepreneur?

It is not always as obvious as you might think! So, before thinking about strategies, take a moment to scan the below 'signs' that you might be an introverted entrepreneur:

  • You crave alone time to recharge. It’s not that you’re antisocial; you just need space to recover your energy after socializing or showing up online;
  • You prefer working solo or in small, tight-knit teams. Big teams and open-plan workspaces? Not your vibe (me either);
  • You’re a deep thinker and a natural strategist. You’d rather think things through before making decisions but you have to balance this with your entrepreneurial desire to do things quickly;
  • You’re more comfortable expressing yourself through writing. Whether it's content, blogs, emails, or client messages, written communication feels clearer and less pressurised than on-the-spot verbal responses;
  • You’re highly self-aware and reflective. You’re always examining what’s working, what’s not, and how you can adjust your approach.

If you’re thinking these characteristics sound like you, welcome to the club. It’s a bigger club than you think, and many successful entrepreneurs are part of it. Even J.K. Rowling - who’s built a billion-dollar empire - is a classic introvert.

Strategies for introvert entrepreneurs running a business

There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to building a successful business, and that’s especially true for introverts. Instead of following the 'extrovert' blueprint of non-stop social engagement, you can lean into your unique strengths.

Here are some reflections from Episode 11 of the podcast:

  • Recharging is essential, not optional. If you’re an introvert, running on an empty tank isn’t sustainable. I’ll share how I build 'white space' into my calendar so I’m not constantly running on fumes.
  • Your personality isn’t a flaw. There’s no need to "fix" yourself to be more extroverted. I’ll share some of my own experiences with this, and why letting go of that belief changed everything for me.
  • Overstimulation is real. As an introvert, too much input can leave you feeling scattered, snappy, or mentally drained. I’ll explain how I’ve learned to recognize and manage this.
  • Your business should work for you, not the other way around. I’ve built a business that’s aligned with my introverted nature. It’s not by the book, but it works for me. In the episode, I talk about what this looks like in practice.

These ideas only scratch the surface of what I share in the episode, but I hope they spark some curiosity. If any of these reflections resonate with you, you’re going to love the deeper conversation on the podcast.

Why this matters?

I’ve been in this entrepreneurial world long enough to see so many women burn out trying to be someone they’re not.

They’re pushing themselves to be more 'visible,' more 'consistent,' and more 'out there' - even when it’s draining every ounce of their energy. If that’s you, I’m here to tell you there’s another way.

Instead of pushing against your natural energy, you can create a business that works with it. It’s about building from the inside out® — something I talk about often on the podcast and in my coaching.

If you’re ready to learn more, you’ll want to tune into Episode 11 of the Inside Out Entrepreneur Podcast. I’m sharing the real, raw side of being an introverted entrepreneur, and how you can create a business that’s uniquely yours.

Remember: You don’t have to be extroverted to be successful. You just have to be you.
